Are you prepared for whatever disaster may come your way? How will you survive if you have to evacuate, have you planned your escape route, have you planned how your children will get home, or where they will go? What will you do if an earth quake, flood or some other natural disaster hits your area? What if terrorist launched nukes, weapons of mass destruction or bombs go off in your city or town? If you survive the initial destruction any food in the stores will be gone within a few hours and there will most likely be no running water, gas or electricity for a while. Don't wait until the last minute and run to the store to get what you need. Have a plan and put it into action. Make sure you have what you and your family will need to survive for at least a month or more. Have food, water, medications and cash stored in a safe place, don't rely on others or the government to do it for you. If your financial situation prohibits you from purchasing items to store then perhaps combining resources with relatives, close friends, or a trusted neighbor would be beneficial for you as well as them.
